I’m Still a Jesus Freak

For those wondering what that means, let me reminence about my younger years in the 1990s. DC Talk, a Christian music group, released a song and album proclaiming their unwavering belief in Jesus no matter how the world chose to label them. Fast forward to 2016 and we find that the song still rings true, challenging us to remain faithful to our beliefs no matter what the world tries to do to us.

In a time when religious tolerance is intolerant of outwardly expressed deep personal conviction, Christians are mocked and defamed as backward, intolerant, closed minded, and actually considered by many as a blight upon or even a threat to “modern” society.

Let us remember that Jesus was not loved, but hated by the world.

“You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.” (‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:22‬ ‭NASB‬‬)

“”If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.” (John‬ ‭15:18-19‬ ‭NASB‬‬)

We should not be shocked that the world hates us and wants to berate and destroy the Christian church. We should be worried when we are not hated and persecuted because that may mean we aren’t proclaiming our faith enough or standing firm upon the fact that Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John‬ ‭14:6‬ ‭NASB‬‬)

I’m still a Jesus Freak.

  1. “We should be worried when we are not hated and persecuted because that may mean we aren’t proclaiming our faith enough or standing firm upon the fact that Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven.”
Amen to that. I’ve always used this as a barometer to determine whether my Chrisian walk is effective or just worldly. Excellent post.

  2. “…religious tolerance is intolerant of outwardly expressed deep personal conviction…” Love this. Granted, what form that religious expression takes is indicative of that religion, which is telling, and can also be subject to the reverent’s interpretation of that doctrine. Still, as Ravi Zacharias says, one cannot have two truth claims at the same time. Anyway, still a valuable quote! Also, FABULOUS meme! Did you create it?

    1. To true. I am of course referring to the truth found within the Christian Bible, and expressing a devout faith in Jesus Christ. I’m not speaking of preaching on a street corner but the looks your coworkers give you when you simply state that modern lifestyles do not agree with Biblical teachings. Any time you take a stand, be prepared for people to challenge and criticize you.

And yes I created the meme. 😄
